Site Updates
I have added a Google based search facility to the left hand menu, this should hopefully make it easier to navigate the site.

Bearing removal
After heating the cases up in an oven the bearings and crankshaft can easily be removed from the cases. Some of the bearings are a little noisy so will be replaced.
Closer inspection of the cases revealed some damage to the engine case where one of the 6mm bolts holding the camchain tunnel down. I’m not sure what I am going to do about this .

Flywheel and Clutch
The flywheel is now off, as usual the retaining nut took quite a lot of persuading to loosen, but the air gun won the day in the end. Once the nut is loose I leave it covering the end of the crankshaft to ensure the crank isnt damaged whilst using the puller. Removal of the flywheel using the puller was the usual tighten -> mallet -> tighten -> mallet (continue) until it was released from the taper. After removing the camchain tensioner and camchain attention was moved to the other side.
Again the primary drive, balancer shaft, and clutch nuts surrendered
easily to the air gun.

When the clutch was stripped it was clear one of the posts had been broken off at some point and subsequently bodged, I have a few spare baskets so this wont be too much of a problem.
The oil pump looks very clean compared to the inside of the cases, which are covered in a black residue, so fingers crossed it may well be in good condition.
Engine Strip
I
have been looking
to swap the front master cylinder on the SRX for a while. The master cylinder previously fitted (left) came from a DRZ400 and had a 12mm bore. Whilst the front brake was pretty sharp the travel was just a little to long, sometimes giving the impression it needed bleeding.I found a14mm replacement (right) from a box of SRX bits I bought back in the summer. I havent ridden the bike yet but the lever feels firmer and more predictable.
